VSG surgery Weight gain and hunger

??9.0

Mentirosa!!! My lying ass scale is making stuff up again. I thought that I already had a talk with her about that shit, but I see that its not working. I really gotta nip this in the bud. The next thing you know she'll be prank calling 911 telling the people that I got her ass hogtied and hanging over the shower rod. Well, that might be true if she keeps giving me weights that are 2 lbs up from the day before.

Maybe if I got a cute scale, I wouldn't hang it. No, scratch that. I'd want to hang it more.
This morning, my hunger woke me up out of my sleep. It was a gnawing at the pit of your stomach, about to eat through to your spinal column kind of hunger. I still haven't eaten anything yet (waiting for my food to get ready), but at least now some of the urgency is gone. Some people say that they don't experience hunger after the sleeve, but that hasn't been the case with me at all. I had one lady insist that I wasn't feeling real hunger, just an overproduction of acid and a desire for food because her doctor said that you don't get hungry.

First, I HATE people who think that what their doc/surgeon/nutritionist/trainer said is golden.
Second, I HATE people who try to tell other people that what they feel is wrong.

I've been experiencing hunger all of my natural, Black, life and I know what it is. That's like you cutting your finger and someone telling you, " Oh that's not pain." "Really? Its not pain.? How about I give you a swift kick in the ass and you tell me if that's real pain!?" It's as real now as it was then.

Oh yeah I entered a contest for chance to win some cool swag over here at scribbling in the margin.

Well, I'm about to go get back in the bed and cue up the episode of "V" I got on the dvr.

  1. I experience hunger often!! I swear I could have written this blog today. My scale is a real bitch too. Couple of weeks ago the bitch told me I gained 4 pounds overnight. I went to my scheduled doctor's appt. and apparently their scale is best friends with mine. That bitch said I also gained 4 pounds. It just doesn't end does it?

  2. Lol! It never does. I don't freak out about the weight gains like I used to and they don't ruin my whole day anymore. They still SUCK though.

  3. :) I always love reading your posts. You crack me up! And you're full of good information, too.

  4. Yeah, I haven't experienced real hunger as yet, but I'm sure that people do after the surgery. The general rule of "you can't feel hunger" doesn't apply to everyone, and the only person who can say what you're feeling is you. Very few things in this life are absolute.

  5. I couldn't have said it better myself, Digitarii. What is true for one may not be true for another, and what is true now might not be true tomorrow.

  6. ha ha ha - I love your posts! Always keeping it real. I thought it was only me - we know when we're hungry - not head hungry either -- plain our right hungry! I feel you sis. lol

  7. Someone saying that no VSG patient feels hunger is like saying all RNY patients experience dumping. Sheesh! I'm fortunate that I don't feel -much- hunger because if I'm hungry, I eat the wrong stuff most of the time because it's not just tummy hunger, it's head hunger exacerbating tummy hunger. Was that even in English? :-) I think that if you feel hungry, you feel hungry. I don't have a direct line to your body so I can't feel what you are feeling, so I'm the last person to say what you feel isn't just as real as what I feel. I guess this is a sore spot for me because I have Fibromyalgia and have often been on the receiving end of "you don't look sick, therefore you can't be sick".

Just try not to commit scale-cide. :-) It's not worth it.

  8. ha! my hunger ramps up. it's off in the morning, but turns up real loud as the day goes on. I think I've dumped, too. It sure felt like it, at least. We're all different.

  11. Ok Wanning Woman, I gotta tell it like it is. You know I love you and because I do I decided to take your recommendation of premire protein shakes and give one a try. I am left wondering what you did to your taste buds to make them think that these taste good. I really nearly made myself sick with it this morning. Sorry, gotta disagree with you on those things. Still love you though

  12. LMAO. What kind did you get? If you got the vanilla use them to mix in with other things. I've recently started doing that.Just remix them! The chocolate ones are my fave while PT is crazy about the vanilla.

  13. I purchased a new up-to-the-minute scale that I could perform my daily (evaluations) on for the first time in YEARS and it came from Walmart. I say evaluations because in my mind I always weight 200lbs. That was a huge accomplishment all in itself. The scale cost less than $50 instead of the last one that cost me $200 back in 2003 and came with armed security and street baracades. Every morning I walk past her and smile on my way to the restroom and she gives me a fake smile right back. Then depending on how she feels, she lets me climb up and still smiles back at me and I tell her I love you too. Wait oh ok were talking about scales. Then one day, she said “E” what the F$#%!!!!!! She is better now.

  15. Hunger is a part of my post wls life, but I'm still successful. I could easily become food apathetic and never eat without it

  16. Omg!!! Thank you! I thought I was crazy. I am dreaming about food. The hunger never goes away! Wtf?

  17. Some people lose it, some people don't. You're not a freak if you don't lose your hunger. Anon, I think I'm more obsessed with food than I ever was before surgery.

    1. AMEN! I came across your blog and now I know I'm not crazy. I wake up almost every morning STARVING, and I'm almost 8 months post op. And that scale is a wicked ugly bitch....my weight has stalled and no matter what I do or eat, the number doesn't change or it even goes up. And my surgeon isn't pleased, apparently his scale and my scale have some sort of "friends with benefits" arrangement. Ugh.

    1. Oh and I am way more obsessed with food...

    2. Kelly, so am I. Sometimes it's a good obsessed: like checking for protein or carb counts on EVERYTHING I eat. But sometimes it's a bad obsession, especially during that lovely time of the month where we're all supposed to celebrate the joys of being a woman. :( Reese's Cups...and they weren't sugar free either.

  19. Wow! I'm so happy I found this. I'm 10 days pp and wondering if I was crazy. My stomach growls constantly, all I can do is think about food. If my husband hadn't seen the part of stomach removed I'd b questioning if the surgery was ever done.

  20. 27 days post op and hungry all the time. I can fill my stomach up but 1 hour later it is growling again. Ugh. I'm able to keep it at 600 cal/per day for now but what if I need more and more? Ugh

    1. I would recommend focusing on getting in protein first. 600 calories is low and you will still lose even if you have to add more in

  21. OMG! I am 10 months VSG post-op and for 2 months I have been eating like a pig. Head hunger! I need to get back on track. I skipped my last doc appt bc I was embarrassed about going! Help!

  22. Hello I'm a newbie here and I'm having my VSG done January 16th. This is freaking me out about the hunger thing. I hope and pray I don't get the growling and grumbling. Wondering if I should call the whole thing off
